The brief says multicultural reach. The plan says one message.
Agencies live and die on the recommendation, and “our planner reckons it’s fine” is not a defence a strategy director can take into the room. Mosaica tests creative against an audience before the spend is committed.
What is at stake
Why this sector is different.
The expensive failure is not the campaign that offends. It is the campaign that unintentionally does not work on a third of its audience and shows up as a soft number nobody can explain.
Pre-testing has not solved this. Focus groups are slow, expensive and give you eight opinions. Aggregate pre-testing gives you one number that averages away the nuance you needed to find. Both arrive too late to change the hero execution.
For an agency the second value is the defence. A recommendation backed by cited evidence survives a client challenge in a way that a planner’s judgement does not — and it is the difference between defending the work and re-doing it.
It is also how you move on an audience you have no history with. The research behind every finding is reviewed by subject-matter experts and by the communities it describes, so the reasoning, the source and the adaptation arrive together, whether the audience is one you have bought for years or a market you are entering next.
“The spot opens on the joke: deadpan irony, no wink.”
- How it read
- The irony carried for audiences reading in a low-context register and inverted for audiences reading high-context. The brand appeared to sincerely endorse the thing it was mocking.
- The mechanism
- High- and low-context communication norms. Irony depends on shared contextual cues that do not survive translation across reading registers.
- The change
- Keep the joke, add the wink — one visual beat that marks the satire before the line lands. Comedy intact, inversion closed.

The collection
What sits behind an advertising and media scan.
A collection is the part of the Corpus curated for this sector. It is browsable as a library and it is the same content the scan reads — so your team never works from a different source than the check.
Audience-reading research
How irony, directness, aspiration and authority are read across the segments a media plan buys.
Symbol, colour and timing context
Meaning that attaches to imagery, gesture, dates and observances without anyone intending it.
Campaign case patterns
Documented patterns from published campaign readings, adapted so no client is identifiable.
Category contrast material
How the same claim reads differently by category, so a frame that works in one is not transplanted blindly into another.
What each reading catches in this sector.
Exposure catches the execution that becomes the story. Clearance holds the standards check before the client sees it. Reception is where the argument for the work gets made.
